Welcome to episode 22!

In the last episode, I discussed building online authority. It’s probably the most sought-after thing for Internet businesses outside of clients. Many creators (myself included) try to grow authority first, but what does that even mean?

Well…

Authority = Trust

And most of us come standard issue with it but choose to start from scratch.

So sad to see the time being wasted.

Use your experience, not your following.

In today’s episode, I want to discuss the first mistake most entrepreneurs make. It’s something that can ruin your business in the long run and prolong your success. What is it? A lack of clarity.

Many entrepreneurs think they have a great idea but refuse to refine it.

They take a half-step in the most important part of a business’s journey—the start. This leads to counterproductive decision-making, contradictory behavior, and, worst of all, a severe lack of results.

Let’s dig in.

The Problem

For this, I’ll tell you my most recent example…

About 5.5 months ago, when I decided to start my business consultancy, I thought I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to help regular people convert into business owners. I was going to offer my expertise to employees looking to become entrepreneurs.

I marketed myself as a business consultant, then I swapped to an entrepreneurship consultant, then I switched to a startup consultant…

One month into the journey and I swapped to a personal branding consultant…

In just one month, I changed my packaging FOUR times and my niche TWICE.

But it didn’t stop there…

I’d spend the first two weeks of 2024 looking to redefine my niche… again!

Why?

I didn’t have the results. I also didn’t know what I wanted OR how to figure it out OR what I should be doing…

I had no clarity.

I finally sat down in mid-February and decided on a direction and a strategy.

3 days later, I closed a client!

Funny part?

I still had no clue what my business was offering at the time, and that internal confusion caused me to misprice myself.

But after continuing to work on it, I figured out the answer!

The Solution

Shortly after closing my first client, I signed up for a coaching program.

I figured the experience would educate me on how other similar businesses look. From there, I quickly began absorbing the coaching material every day. I saw similarities in what I assumed I should do, but the bigger benefit came from the differences.

I found things I could do better and things I should emulate.

However, even with all this amazing data, I received something that I never thought I needed…

That’s right, clarity.

Walking through my business with someone who had done it before showed me just how confused I was about the entire thing.

That moment of light changed everything. Immediately, I took action.

  • I swapped to X

  • I started this newsletter

  • I started to recreate my business offer

  • I removed the unnecessary parts of my funnel

By removing all these bottlenecks, I created a sustainable business that I am confident will succeed. This moment finally showed me how I could best leverage my expertise to grow my business.

Now, I am actually able to help others achieve that same level of clarity, fulfillment, and success.
